Aging on Parole

People over 50 are increasingly becoming a larger portion of the incarcerated population. It is generally understood that 95% of people will leave prison, so older people will become a greater proportion of people leaving prison and on parole. My research seeks to understand the needs and challenges of older people leaving prison and parole officer’s understanding and support of those needs. This was the basis of my dissertation research, with the support of the New Jersey State Parole Board. Currently, with the support of the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, I am interviewing people on parole in Pennsylvania, particularly over the age of 50 to build on my dissertation research.
